In 1914, during a game of pool, Elwood Barrick, John Snyder, and John Ramanelli shared the idea of building an amusement park on Summit Lake. After 2 years of finding investors, Summit Beach Park started construction.
Summit Beach Park in Akron, Ohio, opened on July 4, 1917. During the 1920s it was one of Ohio's most profitable amusement parks. Summit Beach Park closed on Labor Day, 1958. Presently, the area of Summit Beach Park is now a city-operated community center, and located nearby is a low-income government housing project run by the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. AMHA operates the 241-unit Summit Lake Apartments.
With crowds of thousands of people daily, the park was also known as Akron's Million Dollar Playground. The park featured the Crystal Pool, the largest mosaic tile pool in the world, the country's largest fun-house, and a dance hall called the Wisteria Ballroom.
Wisteria, a 28,000 square-foot ballroom had an oak floor with a suspended orchestra pit. The dance hall burned to the ground in 1950. The ballroom was located on Ira Avenue in Akron, Ohio.
What once was the home of a popular beach and amusement park is now home to crime and poverty. Most of the homes and businesses in the lakeside community are now boarded up.
Supposedly, spirits of children who drowned here, roam the banks of the lake. Nearby residents claim to hear children laughing and playing. A ghost of a clown is said to be present here as well. Allegedly he burned to death in a tent fire.

Thanks to Stephanie White for bringing this to OTH's attention recently.
Nick Lockard took this photo of John Albrecht on March 20, 2008, on OTH Investigation #25 at Summit Lake, in Akron, Ohio. There appears to be a possible apparition peering from behind a tree. John Albrecht believes that this could also be a possible pareidolia effect.

Spirits of Children
There are a lot of children that live on the west side of the lake. Their voices can carry throughout the area. There are also numerous signs that warn you of their presence.
ASCPL Special Collections
Due to a photo that might be potential evidence, taken from OTH-025, this case is now reopened.
